DDCdances Holds Season Finale Concert

FARMINGTON HILLS:  On May 3, DDCdances presented City Songs, a concert of premieres danced to music by Detroit based artists.  The concert was preformed at the Wallace Smith Theatre, Oakland Community College, Farmington Hills.

The evening featured the City Songs dance suite, performed to live music by the renowned Detroit singer Ursula Walker and musician Buddy Benson.  One movement of the dance featured Ursula Walker and Barbara Selinger, DDC artistic director.

Come In, a major piece choreographed by Barbara Selinger and danced to an original score by Detroit composer/musician Dan Kolton, was also premiered.  This theatrical work was inspired by the short story "The Liar," by Henry James.  The dance weaves together portraits of individuals who capture the essence of truth and moral values, revealing their reactions to deceit.

Michigan Dance Council names Kay Rediers "Dance Teacher of the Year, 2013"

Michigan Dance Council is proud to present the 2013 Touchstone Award to Kay Rediers.  Kay received the award at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Award Dinner on May 10, 2013.

Kay Rediers has been the Director of Dance at Cranbrook Schools since 2007, where she teaches dance, pilates and yoga.  Her choreography can be seen in the Cranbrook Winter and Spring Festival Concerts, the annual musical, and the Evening of Dance Concert which she produces.  Kay was a dance artist with Detroit Dance Collective from 1981-2007, where she choreographed and performed featured roles in numerous works produced by the company.  Kay was the Associate Artistic Director of DDC and the Director of Education for DDC's outreach program.  Her residencies in schools connected dance and curriculum.  She has extensive experience with special needs students and worked as a dance artist with the VSA Arts of Michigan Integrated Multi-Arts Curriculum Project.

Kay earned her BS in Dance Education from Wayne State University.  Her summer studies at the Bill Evans Teacher Intensive continue to influence and inspire her teaching.
